West Virginia Department of Tourism hosting WV Day event at the State Capitol on June 20

Charleston, WV (WOAY) West Virginia is preparing to celebrate its 163rd birthday with a free, family-friendly event at the State Capitol Complex this Saturday. 

The West Virginia Department of Tourism is inviting residents and visitors to take part in a day of activities highlighting the Mountain State’s history and heritage. 

The celebration will include a scavenger hunt at the State Museum, educational activities at the Culture Center, and guided tours of the Capitol building. 

At noon, officials will unveil the state’s official Semiquincentennial Quilt, created by quilters from across West Virginia to commemorate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. 

Guests can also enjoy free West Virginia hot dogs, lemonade, and birthday cake from noon until 2:00 p.m. while supplies last. 

The event is free and open to the public, with complimentary parking available at the State Capitol Parking Garage and Laidley Field.
