West Virginia Department of Human Services receives federal approval for 2026 Summer EBT program

Charleston, WV (WOAY) The West Virginia Department of Human Services is once again offering summer grocery assistance for families with children who rely on school meals.

The Bureau for Family Assistance has received federal approval for the 2026 Summer EBT program, which helps eligible households purchase groceries while school is out for summer break.

The program runs from June 1 through August 20 and provides a one-time grocery benefit.

Families hoping to receive benefits during the first round of payments are encouraged to submit an application by May 15.

Applications will still be accepted through August 20.

Most eligible families will be automatically enrolled if they already receive SNAP, WV works, qualifying medicaid benefits, have children in foster care, or students identified as homeless, migrant, runaway, or enrolled in Head Start.

Those families can expect benefits beginning the week of May 25.

Families not automatically enrolled will need to apply through the Department of Human Services.

Applications are available at county offices or online.

For more information, families can call the D.O.H.S. Customer Service Center at 1-877-716-1212.
