Mt. Hope, WV (WOAY) The city of Mount Hope is celebrating its 35th Mount Hope Jubilee on September 18th and 19th.
The weekend kicks off at 5 on Friday night with the Mount Hope High School alumni gathering, followed by live music by Bobby D and Karen James Buckland, then a large fireworks display by the Mount Hope Fire Department.
Saturday’s festivities start at 9 am, featuring food and craft vendors, a parade, a car show, and live music by the Ann Arrington Project with Jim Pino, as well as Buddy Allen and the Cheat River Band.
According to Mount Hope City Councilwoman and Jubilee Chairperson Patty Logan, the celebration began as a coal company reunion, but now marks the city’s biggest community event:
“Since Mt. Hope doesn’t have a high school anymore, we can’t have a homecoming football game like we always did. We have this. A lot of people from out of state come in; a lot of local people come in. And I think if anybody has ever been in Mt. Hope and done it and met people in Mt. Hope, you know that we’re a bunch of friendly people over here. And we would really welcome anybody to come and just spend time with us… It means a whole lot to the town to be able to get out here and be around each other. I think it means a lot.”
