Charleston, WV (WOAY) August is Child Support Awareness Month, and the West Virginia Department of Human Services is highlighting the important role child support plays in helping children and families across the Mountain State.
During the last federal fiscal year, the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement distributed more than $181 million in child support payments, helping nearly 60,000 West Virginia children.
The bureau also established more than 11,000 legal paternities, helping children gain access to financial support, health benefits, and other legal protections.
Throughout August, Child Support Enforcement employees will wear green on Wednesdays to raise awareness of the services available to families across the state.
