West Virginia (WOAY) The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is urging residents to keep an eye on air quality as smoke from Canadian wildfires moves into the state.
Officials say conditions could begin to deteriorate and continue into today, with some areas potentially reaching “Unhealthy” or even “Very Unhealthy” air quality levels.
The smoke contains fine particulate matter that can be especially harmful to children, older adults, pregnant women, and anyone with heart or lung conditions.
If air quality worsens, health officials recommend limiting time outdoors and avoiding strenuous activity.
Residents can monitor conditions anytime by visiting AirNow.gov or using the AirNow mobile app.
