Weather Pattern Looks Grim For Drought Relief

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Moderate drought has established itself in much of our area and Mother Nature won’t lend us a helping hand until next week.

Humidity levels will ramp up a bit on Friday, drop a notch on Saturday and then go off to the races early next week. That being said, highs will be in the 80s this weekend. The hottest day will likely occur Monday with most of the region cracking the 90-degree mark yet again.

A thunderstorm or two will develop over the high ground of Rt. 219 Friday afternoon. One of two of you will see a thunderstorm Sunday between 2-6 p.m. The next risk for a thunderstorm is Tuesday between 5-9 p.m. and then most likely across the entire region on Wednesday. The Greenbrier Valley has a risk for a shower on Thursday.

The rain expected over the next week will keep the drought status-quo. There is upside risk Wednesday for the rainfall to exceed expectations and trim back the moderate drought along and south of I-64. However, it will take three days of occasional rain to remove the drought completely.

A cold front will finally push through with a handful of showers and storms Wednesday evening and a noticeable cooling period is expected Thursday and Friday with highs in the 70s and much lower humidity.
