Warming up this week, showers return by the weekend

We saw plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures this afternoon, with the only downside to the weather occurring in the form of gusty winds out of the west and southwest.
The winds were gusty enough in parts of Pocahontas County (including a gust to 51 mph in Snowshoe!) that we had a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service office in Charleston that was set to expire at 7:00 p.m.
The winds do calm down slightly as the night goes on.
If we can get the aurora to settle this far south, we could see similar sights to what we saw last night around the area. Lows will wind up in the lower to middle 30s, with some upper 20s in the traditionally colder spots.
Tomorrow will be another cool and breezy afternoon around the region. High temperatures will actually drop a couple of degrees compared to where they were today. Most areas will wind up in the lower 50s, with some topping out in the upper 40s. Tomorrow night will also be a couple of degrees cooler than tonight, and most areas are expected to drop to below the freezing mark.
We’ll end the traditional work week with warmer temperatures and a return of rain chances. For now, I expect that we’ll see good weather for our Fabulous Football Friday games. Temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-50s during the day. Another low-pressure center is expected to make its way into the region, but the rain should wait until Saturday when some moisture arrives in the region. A warm front overspreads the area, triggering the rain chances but also raising the temperatures. Highs on Saturday will be in the lower 60s in many parts of the area.
The cool frontal side of the next low comes through on Sunday. The number and intensity of the showers will ramp up compared to Saturday, and the temperatures will cool down. As we go into the early and middle part of next week, another low moves in, but the timing and intensity of that next weathermaker is up in the air. I do expect it to bring showers and cooler temperatures on Tuesday and into Wednesday. Some of the showers could be in the wintry form early in the day, especially in the higher elevations.
