OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – What a nice day it was around the area today, with temperatures in the 60s in most areas, with some 70s in the southern coalfields and 50s in the high elevation areas.
We saw partly cloudy skies today, and that will continue tonight. That will allow temperatures to fall off quickly, but with a light southwesterly wind, lows tonight will still be quite mild, closer to the average highs than the average lows. We’ll drop into the upper 40s and lower 50s outside of the Greenbrier Valley and Pocahontas County. There we’ll see lows in the lower 40s.
Tomorrow, a warm front will overspread the state and drive our temperatures into the upper 60s and lower 70s while also triggering some showers. These showers won’t be too heavy but will slow down the commute and make an umbrella or rain jacket nice accessories to the wardrobe.
The chance for showers should end by the evening as we await the arrival of the cold frontal side of the storm that is passing to our north. Lows tomorrow night will be even milder than they will be tonight, in the middle 50s.
Friday, the front finally arrives and will give us some decent rainfall, but nothing that will cause any flooding concerns. There could be a few rumbles of thunder, and one or two of the storms could have gusty winds as well, but severe weather is not expected in our area.
One thing the front will do is to drive our temperatures down. Highs should be in the 60s on Friday, but similar to the previous few systems that have come through the area, temperatures will fall as the evening goes on. They could even fall far enough where some of the precipitation that is still occurring could change over to a mix of rain and snow. This is especially possible in the higher elevation areas.
Temperatures as we start the weekend will be cold again, with highs in the mid-to upper 40s. But this cool snap won’t last long; by Sunday, it will be in the upper 50s again. The warming trend continues despite more active weather as the forecast period ends. A chance for showers is in the forecast from Monday through Wednesday of next week, but highs will be back in the 70s starting on Tuesday.
