It was a very pleasant day around southern West Virginia, with temperatures 15 to 20 degrees warmer than they were on Saturday afternoon. Almost everyone wound up in the 60s.

Tonight will also be warmer than what we saw this morning. And tomorrow promises to be another great day, even if it will be a little windy, with highs in the lower to middle 70s. The warm weather is due to a warm front that has overspread the area.
But the warm weather is only temporary, as the cool front comes storming into the region. With the front comes a chance for strong to severe storms, with the viewing area split in two by a “Slight” risk area posted by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) from tomorrow morning through Tuesday morning.

Although damaging winds are the main threat, all of the hazards that SPC tracks are in play (in addition to damaging winds, that includes large hail and tornadoes). There is a possibility that supercells could form ahead of the main line, meaning tornadoes would be a serious threat, but this is much more likely to be to our northwest.

In addition to the severe threat, there could be heavy rain with the storms, leading to the usual hazards associated with that – ponding of water on roads for the Tuesday morning commute along with standing water in low-lying spots.

After the front passes through, temperatures will fall to below normal levels again for a couple of days. But by the end of the week, it will warm up again ahead of another storm system that will give us chances for rain for much of the Easter weekend. Temperatures after this next low, however, should stay at or above the normal, the Climate Prediction Center’s 6 to 10-day outlook calls for temperatures to be above normal through the period.
