Warm and active weather this week

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It’s a warm weather lover’s delight to start the week around the region, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the lower to middle 50s today.

After lows tonight drop into the middle 30s, they’ll again be thrilled to see that the high in most areas will be in the upper 50s tomorrow and again on Wednesday, and in the lower 60s on Thursday and Friday!

Despite the mild weather, it’s also going to be active this week as several storms will come onshore along the Pacific Coast and drive eastward towards us. Out there, the storms will bring flooding rains and heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Once those storms get here, they’ll give us chances for rain, starting on Wednesday.

Several days of precipitation chances are in the forecast; in fact, once the chance for rain (and eventually snow) gets here, chances will last through the rest of the seven days. Rain totals over the next seven days will be decent but not overly impressive. Many areas will receive around one inch in total, and while some areas in the southern coalfields will pick up more, it’s important to remember that the totals below are over seven days, with several rounds of rain counted in the total.
As for snow, the late weekend storm promises some accumulation, with the major models showing the usual vast differences in their predictions this far out.
Unfortunately, when it comes to temperatures, the good times will not last as long as the precipitation chances, as colder air marches into the area by this weekend. Highs will drop into the upper 40s on Saturday and will continue to drop into the lower 40s by Sunday and middle 30s next Monday. Fortunately, this cooling trend looks to be a brief one.
