Virginia woman sentenced to 30 years in connection to 2022 shooting in Morgantown

Morgantown, WV (WOAY)- A Virginia woman has been sentenced in connection with a 2022 fatal shooting in Morgantown. 

50-year-old Tracey Hamby will serve 30 years in prison for the second-degree murder of 32-year-old Matthew Vaughn. 

In March 2022, Hamby confessed to shooting Vaughn in the shoulder area at a home on Van Gilder Avenue in Morgantown. 

Hamby was a Beckley, WV, resident before moving to Suffolk, Virginia.

Emergency personnel conducted life-saving measures, but Vaughn was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Hamby was at the scene of the shooting, and further investigation led to authorities finding a firearm at her residence. 

She later admitted to shooting Vaughn during a domestic dispute.

Hamby is also subject to paying a fine as restitution, the amount of which will be determined at a later hearing.
