GLEN FERRIS, WV (WOAY) – After WOAY reported this week that a resident in the Glen Ferris area performed a home test on his water and found concerning results, the Kanawha Falls Public Service District, which provides service to those homes, worked to conduct its own tests.
Upon learning of the Glen Ferris resident’s home test for bacteria indicating fecal contamination had a positive result, Kanawha Falls PSD General Manager Joey Goodnight took immediate action Thursday.
“I made a phone call to Patrick Murphy at the health department. I asked him if he could come out and do some samples,” Goodnight said. “The gentleman from the Office of Environmental Health Services came out and shadowed us while we did our samples. And they also took samples as well.”
The test results came back Friday morning. According to Goodnight, all samples taken in the Glen Ferris area were absent for bacteria of any kind.
Goodnight also emphasized that the district is consistently testing water quality.
“Every other hour, the chlorine levels are checked and tanks are changed and things are done, and all those results are recorded at the plant,” Goodnight said. “Plus we do a MOR once a month, which requires three Bac-T samples from inside the district. That’s required of all plants in the state that produce water for drinking purposes.”
He acknowledged that the district is facing criticism, but they stand by their water quality.
“Me as a general manager and the commissioners that sit on the board have taken every step that they can to ensure that the water quality is the best that it can be, and I’m taking steps to make it even better,” Goodnight said. “Funding is an issue now to make it any better than what it is. But as far as quality water, I think that our lab results will prove that.”
