West Virginia (WOAY)-Two West Virginia law firms are taking a stand against the manufacturers of ultra-processed foods.
Foods, they say, are contributing to a growing health crisis among children in the mountain state. Â
Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee, & Deitzler, along with Powell & Majestro, have filed lawsuits targeting companies believed to be fueling rising cases of type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Â
These conditions are increasingly prevalent in kids and teens, and the legal teams are asking for families to come forward. Â
They’re especially seeking individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis before the age of 18, and who are currently under 30. Â
Parents and grandparents of affected individuals are also urged to share their stories.
With the lawsuit, these firms aim to highlight the long-term effects of processed foods and push for accountability from major manufacturers. Â
