West Virginia (ABC) August 26 is Women’s Equality Day, marking the anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
More than a century later, women have made significant gains.
But advocates say equality still hasn’t reached every workplace, paycheck or position of power.
Women are now leading companies, serving in Congress and entering professions that generations ago were largely closed to them.
But that progress has not yet translated into equality across the board.
Women still hold less than a third of the voting seats in Congress.
And the latest census data show women working full time, year-round earn about 81 cents for every dollar earned by men.
For many women of color, that pay gap is even wider.
For advocates, closing those gaps means more than opening doors. It means making sure women have a seat at the table.
