Greenbrier County, WV (WOAY)- Authorities have arrested two men as part of a homicide investigation connected to the death of a Crichton man who had been missing since November 26, 2024.
Audie Carl “A.J.” Sloan’s family filed an official missing person’s report with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department on December 4, 2024.
While Sloan was active in his addiction, he always stayed in contact with his family, and reportedly stopped showing up for key dates that he would never have missed, sparking worries.
Amber Kidd, Sloan’s sister, has been at the forefront of the search for her brother.
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, after receiving an anonymous tip, authorities responded to a wooded, rugged area in Nicholas County.
The tip suggested the remains of a missing person from Greenbrier County could be found in the area.
Upon arrival, investigators located human remains and immediately secured the scene.
The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team and Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team processed the area.
The body was then transported to the state medical examiner’s office for further examination.
The remains were positively identified as Sloan, and after an autopsy, authorities ruled Sloan’s death a homicide.
Now, two men are facing charges in connection with the case.
Ellis Woodrow Wilson faces both first- and second-degree murder charges.
Justin Rich is charged as an accessory before the fact to first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.
Rich awaits further court proceedings in Southern Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash bail.
Wilson is in Central Regional Jail on a $20,000 surety/cash bail and an additional $20,000 cash-only bail.
The arrests follow a Facebook Live video posted by Kidd, who publicly identified Wilson and Rich as the individuals charged in her brother’s death.
While law enforcement has confirmed the charges against both men, they have not officially stated that those charges are directly tied to Sloan’s murder.
Officials say additional information about the investigation will be released in the coming days.
