New York (ABC News) As we mark 250 years of American independence this week, one non-profit is on a nationwide mission to make sure every generation recognizes the selfless courage and service of first responders who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.
To mark 25 years since that fateful day, the “Tunnel to Towers Foundation” launched “Steel Across America”, bringing a 16,000-pound steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center to communities across the country, offering the public a rare opportunity to experience history firsthand.
Stephen Siller Jr, son of a fallen September 11 firefighter and the manager of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s “In Line of Duty Program,” recounts an emotional moment on his very first stop in New York City.
