Thurmond cancels summer events

THURMOND, WV (WOAY) – The town of Thurmond was set to host three different events for the community over the next couple of months. After holding a town council meeting two weeks ago, the town has decided that it cannot hold “Thurmond Train Day,” “Thurmond Triathlon” or “Thurmond Reunion” this summer.

“The Governor issued the “Stay at Home” order,” said Thurmond Council Member Melissa McCune. “We have been trying to decide how we can rearrange events and, uh, continue with our first event, which would have been in July for Train Day. Um, but due to the geography and the layout of the town, there was no way to keep good social distancing because the sidewalk’s not even six feet wide.”

All three events that were scheduled to take place this summer have been postponed until 2021.
