The rise of technology has lead to the decline of learning cursive writing

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- Many wonder why the younger generations can’t seem to read cursive. Well, it seems to stem from the rise of technology.

Over the past few decades, learning to write cursive has been on the decline in American schools. The emphasis has been shifted more to teaching keyboard skills. Even the common core state standards, from 2010, didn’t require having cursive in school curriculum. So with limited time and resources, cursive writing has taken a hit as the digital world continues to grow.

However, it’s making a comeback due to renewed interest. There’s many benefits to it from educational, to creative, and even motor skills. Multiple states have implemented legislation to put it back in learning.
