The Candy Maker at the Greenbrier Resort has some sweet treats waiting for you

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY)- The Candy Maker has been selling sweet treats in the Greenbrier Resort since the early 90s.

“They were originally making candies in the kitchens and people would wander into the kitchen smelling the chocolate and wanted to know where they could find it,” said Cam Huffman, Public Relations Director at the Greenbrier. “So the idea came to create a candy store here at the Greenbrier.”

There’s a variety of different types of treats that’ll make you loco for cocoa. From chocolate-covered pretzels to rum truffles, there’s something for everyone.

“Their goal is really to find something that pleases everybody. So they are always experimenting with new tastes and new ideas,” explained Huffman. “People come and bring their own ideas to say, ‘I’d like to try this.’ And they [the employees] try to find a recipe to make it work.”

They pride themselves on making all these sweet treats in-house and perfecting their recipes.

“I think that’s what makes them special: it’s all made by hand, with love,” said Huffman. “So it’s a little bit different than if you’re buying it from a store from a major manufacturer. They have their hands on every piece, and it is certainly made with love.”

Some people say you can taste that love at first bite, but what dessert does Huffman recommend?

“The orange cream is probably my favorite,” said Huffman. However, he says you can’t go wrong with any options at the candy maker.

The Candy Maker will also be bringing something sweet for guests to try this weekend at the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival.

“Our candy makers have made some nut clusters. There’s an almond, a pecan, and several different kinds of nut clusters made with milk chocolate that they’re incredibly tasty,” explained Huffman. “So I think people will look forward to picking those up at the Chocolate Festival and trying out some of the chocolate right here from the candy maker.”
