The calm between the storms

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a cold day today around southern West Virginia, but at least there was some sunshine, quite a change from the heavy snow that we saw on Monday.

Some of the snowfall totals from the storm that just ended were quite impressive. Many areas saw more than a foot of snow!

And today represented a brief break from the wintry precipitation, but it was just that, brief. The radar is picking up more snow this evening. The snow, however, will take some time to make it to the ground with humidity levels in the 20 to 30 percent range.

This snow is from another system crashing into the region from the northwest. With temperatures below freezing, the early precipitation will fall as snow.

As Wednesday goes on, the snow changes over to a mix of rain and snow and then to all rain.

And this trend will continue as we go into Thursday, which will see the same pattern, although the amount of snow will be much less, and mainly confined to the higher elevations.

After another break for the weekend – where we’ll see some very nice weather – yet another storm will affect the region on Monday. Once again, there will be chances for both rain and snow, with most of the precipitation falling as rain. With all this wet weather, we are expecting some good rain totals over the next few days.

We’ll be tracking creek and stream levels for potential flooding. Once again, the areas that warrant the most attention will be in the same higher-elevation locations with significant snowpack after the last storm.
