BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- To bee or not to bee, that is the question. Well not for the Raleigh County Beekeeping Cooperative Association as they host their 7th annual Beckley Honey Festival.
They do this to showcase what West Virginia beekeepers have to offer.
“I don’t think that a lot of folks realize the amount of honey and the quality of honey that comes from West Virginia. So, this is the kind of showcase local beekeepers,” said Mark Lilly, President of the Raleigh County Beekeeping Cooperative Association. “So many folks are used to big store honey, always looking the same color and tasting the same, when in actuality, that’s not true. There’re so many different varieties, flavors, colors. We have most of it here in West Virginia. So that’s the showcase and help our local beekeepers.”
This will take place on Saturday, August 17, at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests who come can do and see a variety of things.
“There’ll be a bunch of different vendors, food vendors, craft vendors. There will be a tasting bar to taste the different honey that’ll be available for sale,” explained Lilly. “We’ll have a live hive demonstration where we’ll have bees inside a screened in gazebo that people can come up and look at. Of course, the mine tours are available. They’re going to have fudge that they’ve made and everything else.”
They hope everyone comes out to meet local beekeepers and that the weather will be bee-autiful.
