The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was a year of many firsts

LOS ANGELES, CA (WOAY)- The SAG awards on February 24th, 2024, honored both motion picture and television. This was the first awards after the SAG-AFTRA strike last year and this was also the first time they have streamed the awards via Netflix.

Going into the awards this year “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” lead the charge with the most nominations for the motion picture awards, each having 4, including outstanding cast. “Barbie” ended up leaving with no wins and “Oppenheimer” left with the most at 3 including outstanding cast, male actor in a leading role, and male actor in a supporting role.

“Thank you so much, Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you for the respect. Thank you for the invitation to play a genuine part in making this scarily important film,” said Kenneth Branagh, who spoke on behalf of the cast of “Oppenheimer.”

Lily Gladstone won outstanding female actor in a leading role for her performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon.” She was the first Native American to be nominated or win a SAG award, even beginning her acceptance speech in Native American.

“My friends, fellow actors. I feel the good in what you have done, what you do,” Gladstone then said in English to start off her speech.

The comedy series “The Bear” took home the most awards for television with 3. Other shows to win the different awards include “The Last of Us,” “The Crown,” “Beef,” and “Succession.” The legendary actress Barbra Streisand was honored with the life achievement award for her career.

“Thank you. Thank you, SAG-AFTRA. I’m very proud to be a member for over 60 years. I can’t quite believe it,” said Streisand.

Now they turn to the Oscars which will air on March 10th starting 7 pm EST on ABC.
