Temperatures Plummet; Looking Towards the Weekend

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Wind chills have been in the negative teens and twenties this morning, making any travel or outdoor activities very dicey this morning. Even main roads will have plenty of slick spots, so be sure to drive carefully and avoid unnecessary travel. The sun will help melt things a bit, but with temperatures below-freezing, not much will leave and most refreezes overnight.

A couple of isolated snow showers are possible both tonight and Wednesday night, but these will be light and brief. You may want to wake up a bit earlier in the morning this week to warm up the car and prepare for the cold, along with brushing off fluffy snow if it falls. The cold will remain for the rest of the week, continuing the struggles with remaining sleet and ice from this past weekend’s storm.

As we move into the weekend, there is a signal for a classic “Miller A” Nor’easter developing Saturday. This type of storm normally moves up the eastern coast after intensifying off the Carolinas, bringing the heaviest snow to the eastern seaboard. Some models show snow reaching our area, so we are keeping an eye on things as they develop this weekend. We could get some decent to significant snow depending on how far west the storm gets before moving out to sea. Remember, this is early in the week, so things can change. Here’s a look at one of those model runs:

Snow chances stay for Saturday and Sunday as we prepare for the potential of snow from that nor’easter before clearing up for Monday of next week. Temperatures will also go up a pinch by next week, but things will be frigid for the rest of the month and into February. All we can hope for now is an early spring prediction from our friendly groundhog French Creek Freddie on Monday! Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
