Wet and Stormy; Calming Down Tomorrow

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Showers are already passing through this morning, and more will come in the afternoon. Along with the widespread showers, isolated thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon. While the strongest weather stays to our west, some of the storms in our area could become strong. A severe warned storm is unlikely, but cannot be entirely ruled out either. Damaging winds and heavy rain are the concerns for any stronger storms, while hail and tornadic activity are not in play this time around. Minor flooding issues could arise, especially in areas where snowpack is lingering. These showers and storms will last through the night and linger into Friday morning, finally passing through around lunchtime tomorrow. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

After the showers leave on Friday, conditions become calmer. Friday afternoon and Saturday will be dry with decreasing cloud coverage, but temperatures will also be cooling down. Temperatures on Saturday will be ten degrees cooler compared to Friday’s high, and will only fall further as the weekend continues. A low-pressure will push through the south, missing our area, but will ride up the Carolina coast later this weekend.

The low-pressure system that will eventually ride up the coast is not likely to affect us directly at the moment, but it will help drag snow into the region from the Great Lakes. A mix of rain and snow is possible, but most of the region’s precipitation will be pure snow on Sunday. The snow will hang on for most of Sunday and last through Monday afternoon before finally dissipating overnight. Accumulation is likely, but amounts are uncertain. This round of snow could bring moderate to heavy accumulation in the high country, with slightly lighter amounts in the rest of the region.

After the snow moves out of the region on Monday, the weather calms down once again. Temperatures will make a decent rebound Tuesday and Wednesday, reaching back into the mid-40s by the middle of the week. Mostly sunny skies will linger, helping to melt away any potential snow in the region once again. Still, colder nights may cause slick spots on roads to remain a threat for the first half of the work week. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
