Support local arts at Beckley Art Center’s Spring Fundraiser

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Beckley Art Center is holding its 2024 Spring Fundraiser at Weathered Ground Brewery in Ghent on Saturday so they can keep going for another year and provide arts and education to the community.

The importance of funding is everything. BAC is an outlet not just for people in Beckley. Visual artists come from all over Appalachia and beyond to show and sell their work, which is a tough thing to do in arts.

“We’re the only community-based art center in the county. There is the Tamarack but they’re state-funded,” said Director of Operations Seth Hughes. “Our mission is just to focus on our community and just provide experiences that wouldn’t otherwise happen without Bekley Art Center being here.”

At the fundraiser, you can catch performances by one of their student bands “Seeking Altitude” and purchase tickets at the door or at https://beckleyartcenter.com.

“All six members: Max Phillips (vocals/guitar), Claire and Ella Flanagan (vocals), Morgan Blake (guitar), Rowan Meadows (bass guitar), and John Moore (drums) have taken lessons in some instrument or multiple instruments here, and they write their own original songs and play some covers, too.”

Want to show your work at Beckley Art Center? Visual artists, check their website for the exhibition schedule.

“Put in a little submission form,” Hughes said. “Sometimes that includes like, pictures of their work and the medium that it is. And some shows are themed.”

By attending this fundraiser you know you’re giving to a good cause.

“We are also just gonna have like raffle items and silent auction stuff,” said Hughes. “And of course the live music. So there’s something for everybody. Yeah, support your arts community.”
