Summers County, WV (WOAY) – Summers County Deputies are mourning the passing of a retired deputy.
According to a media release from the Summers County Sheriff’s Department, former deputy Jackie Lee Ward passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Ward served Summers County citizens as a deputy for 28 years from 1982 until his retirement in 2010.
In later years, he continued his life of service as pastor of Sandstone Missionary Baptist Church for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife Shelma of nearly 52 years, three children, three siblings, nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 1 pm at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton.
Ward will be buried at Richmond Cemetery in Sandstone following the funeral, with members of the Sheriff’s Department providing escort.
