WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): If you left the house early enough this morning, you may have seen the Blue Moon up in the sky. This morning is perfect for a last minute view, but the sun will rise before this article is published. Speaking of the sun, we’ll get some sunshine on the morning commute and throughout the day. Cloud cover will fluctuate, but most of the region will not be completely gloomy despite the clouds.
The only sort of “kink” in today’s forecast is the chance of a stray shower or two briefly passing through the southern portion of our viewing area this afternoon. However, this chance is short-lived and will dissipate by evening. The potential for a few raindrops aside, it will be a wonderful start to both the month of June and Meteorological Summer!
Tuesday starts with comfortable temperatures and mostly sunny skies, similar to this morning. Yet again, the chances for rain slightly increase tomorrow. Tuesday’s chance is mainly in the afternoon. This time around, everyone in the region carries the chance for rain. Any rain that falls will be wonderful, but storms and showers that end up passing by will be lighter and brief. The heaviest rainfall will end up between a quarter and a third of an inch. This will be barely a fraction of what is needed to fully recover, but anything helps.
For those wondering what the exact amount our region needs is, we’re in need of over 9 inches of rain within a month to fully recover even after the week of rain we got last month. Safe to say, we’ll be needing any and all rain chances we get. Unfortunately for the plants, the high-pressure system pushing into Appalachia will disperse any of the beneficial rainfall out of our area this evening. We are in for another stretch of drier weather for the second half of the week.

The high-pressure center will arrive Wednesday morning, keeping the region stable and dry. Sunny skies and rising temperatures will be a common theme for the next three to four days as high-pressure lingers. It will be an absolutely wonderful time to head outside and enjoy, but you will want plenty of water and sun protection. These nice and dry conditions will last through Saturday, once again bringing drought concerns to the forefront. After the rainy week we had, continuing dry conditions will not be helpful for continued recovery. I would not be surprised if all of our region is back in severe drought by mid-June. Here’s a look at the 7-Day Forecast:
