State Treasurer returns $8,000 in unclaimed property to Wyoming County sheriff’s office

PINEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – Treasurer Larry Pack presented an unclaimed property check for $8,000 to the Wyoming County Sheriff Brad Ellison.

The money came from the Treasurer’s online sale of firearms seized by law enforcement that had no legal owner and no evidentiary value.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office sold 66 firearms.

Whenever we take guns into evidence once the case is closed out or they’re no longer of any evidentiary value, we try to return them to the rightful owner if we can find a rightful owner that’s legal to possess the guns. If we can’t find the rightful owner, I will submit a request to the Treasurer’s Office for them to be sold at the auction for the Treasurer’s Office,” Wyoming County Sheriff’s Captain Tommy Blankenship said.

Wyoming County Sheriff Brad Ellison said the money will be put into a special law fund to pay for new equipment.
