West Virginia (WOAY) July is National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, and state officials are reminding West Virginians to take simple steps to protect their vehicles.
The Governor’s Highway Safety Program is partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to raise awareness about vehicle theft, which remains a nationwide problem despite a decline in reported thefts last year.
Nearly 400 vehicles were reported stolen in West Virginia in 2024, with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 among the most commonly targeted.
Drivers are encouraged to lock their vehicles, park in well-lit areas, keep valuables out of sight, never leave keys inside, and avoid leaving a vehicle running unattended.
