State officials are putting over a million dollars to help rural hospitals and clinics

State Capitol, WV (WOAY) – State officials are putting 1.8 million dollars on the table to help rural hospitals and clinics fill empty clinical positions.

Governor Patrick Morrisey says the money will pay for regional staffing pools of physicians, nurses, and advanced practice providers who rotate among facilities to cover short-term gaps.

According to the governor’s office, the goal is to reduce reliance on temporary staffing agencies, keep West Virginia-licensed clinicians working in the state, and prevent services from shutting down when a facility cannot staff them.

The funding is part of the state’s rural health transformation program, which is making more than 145 million dollars available for rural health care across West Virginia.
