West Virginia (WOAY) Mobile food truck season is underway across the state, and fire officials are reminding vendors of required safety inspections.
The Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia says all mobile food trucks and food trailers must have an inspection sticker from the State Fire Marshal’s Office to ensure cooking equipment, fuel systems, and fire protection systems are operating safely.
Operators must also follow several safety guidelines during operation.
Food trucks must maintain at least ten feet of space from other trucks, vehicles, buildings, and structures.
Pull-behind trailers must also be disconnected from their tow vehicle and stabilized before operating.
Officials recommend checking propane systems daily for leaks, keeping documentation of those checks, and regularly testing propane leak and carbon monoxide detectors inside the unit.
Applications for the required annual inspection are available on the State Fire Marshal’s website, and officials say there is currently no charge.
Fire Marshals will also be conducting compliance checks at fairs, festivals, and events throughout the season to help ensure public safety.
