Spring Fire Season now underway until May 31

West Virginia (WOAY) March 1 marked the start of West Virginia’s annual spring fire season and the return of burning restrictions.

As a reminder, burning is prohibited from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm.

All fires after 5:00 pm must have a safety strip at least 10 feet wide and be attended to until completely extinguished.

Individuals are only allowed to burn vegetation such as leaves, brush, and yard clippings.

Any person or company that causes a fire on any grass or forest land must pay a fine ranging between $100 and $1000, including an additional $200 civil penalty.

Statewide burning restrictions will stay in place until the end of fire season on May 31.
