Showers and Storms Continue; Rainy Pattern Stays

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Showers and storms are continuing to move through the region this morning, but thunderstorms will be weaker than last evening’s episode of severe weather. An umbrella or rain jacket is highly recommended throughout the day due to the steadiness of rainfall. The rainfall will be beneficial for most of the area. However, some low-lying spots may experience ponding if multiple rounds of heavy rain pass through. These storms and showers will last through the day with minimal breaks in the clouds. This gloomy and rainy pattern will last a while, but it is much needed for the region. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest forecast:

The front that passed through last night is resulting in high temperatures dropping a touch below 70 degrees. It is also the reason for continued rainfall for the rest of the week and into the weekend. While trying to move out from the eastern coast, it will be stalled by a Bermuda High. This high pressure will cause the front to stall, leading to the prominent rain pattern. Showers and storms continue to develop for the rest of the week and into the weekend, which helps along drought recovery in our region. Thankfully, any thunderstorms will stay on the weaker side over the next few days. The front will eventually move, just not in the typical eastward fashion.

On Saturday, the front will start to retreat to the northwest. The front essentially backs into us on Saturday, bringing some slightly warmer temperatures and even more rain. This rainy pattern continues through Memorial Day as the front slowly slinks out of the region, leading to a wetter holiday weekend. If you have plans locally or in the Mid-Atlantic, have some indoor backup plans, and keep an eye on the skies this weekend. Showers will be commonplace while storms become scattered.

While the front does eventually leave on Memorial Day, another round of showers comes in behind it on Tuesday. The rainy pattern is not letting go throughout the entire extended forecast. This is what we have needed, and the rainfall over the next week will likely be enough to put a dent in the ongoing drought. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
