BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Shade Tree Car Club held their first and only traditional car show of the year.
Shade Tree and other local car clubs have put on community car cruises in the past, but this one was a traditional show open to the public.
One of the organizers of the car show, Randy Smithson, helped turn it into a food drive. He said he was inspired after seeing what a food bank in McDowell County had done for the community, and wanted to help them out.
“I saw a show on Facebook about a food bank in Welch, WV that fed 15,000 people last year. I just felt impressed that anybody that feeds 15,000 people in a county of 18,000, you gotta admire them,” Smithson said.
Dozens of cars were on display at the show, with each participant donating canned goods to go to Welch.
