Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – Senator Jim Justice joined Virginia Senator Mark Warner in introducing the Child Care Supply Tax Credit Act of 2025.
The bill aims to address a nationwide shortage in healthcare, a problem that is especially high-profile in West Virginia.
West Virginia needs 20,000 childcare spots.
The bill creates a tax credit for childcare providers to offset employee wages, helping with the childcare shortage.
The tax credit is equal to 5 percent of their child care worker’s base wage. Also, centers in rural areas can receive a tax credit worth 7 percent.
The bill also allows the credit to be paid directly to nonprofit providers, like in-home daycares.
