RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Many folks are in that tough spot of do I pay my electric bill or fill my refrigerator?
When those times hit, they often reach out to the Salvation Army of Beckley to see what they can do to help.
Its emergency food pantry is ready to serve.
“We try to do five emergency meals for families that are ready to cook, ready to take some of that financial burden off of families, especially right now with the price of groceries, they seem to go higher and higher every day,” Captain Liz Blusiewicz said.
In these uncertain times, the Salvation Army of Beckley wants the community to know its doors are open seven days a week for anyone in need of food.
“Every day from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, folks can come in, they can sit down, get a hot meal, catch their breath, and try to take some of that strain off,” said Blusiewicz. “There’s an army of people trying to help.”
As we enter another holiday season, the Salvation Army is excited to host its Thanksgiving meal and distribute 150 turkey food boxes. They join other Beckley non-profits in offering a variety of resources.
“There’s also the Dream Center, Commission on Aging – so many agencies that want to help,” Captain Liz said. “But during these times where we’re still feeling that stress as well, as soon as food comes into our pantry, it’s gone within a week. We usually average 120 food boxes in a month. The last three weeks, we’ve been doing that every single week.”
Remember always to choose kindness and help your neighbor.
“We’re seeing folks getting those SNAP benefits or at least seeing them back at the grocery stores, said Captain Liz. “So in those times of chaos, remember, we’re in this together and we have your back. We never want somebody to have to choose those hard decisions of do I buy food or do I pay bills?
