Raleigh General Hospital officially names new autonomous floor-cleaning robot Floorence Moppingale

Beckley, WV (WOAY) Raleigh General Hospital’s newest team member now has an official name.

After receiving nearly 200 entries from employees and community members, the hospital has named its new autonomous floor-cleaning robot “Floorence Moppingale.”

The winning name is a play on Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, whose work helped transform hospital sanitation and patient care.

Hospital officials say Floorence uses autonomous technology to help keep large areas clean, allowing environmental services staff to focus on detailed cleaning and other duties that support patient care.

Raleigh General CEO David Brash says the name reflects the hospital’s commitment to innovation while honoring healthcare professionals whose work continues to inspire the industry.

The naming contest drew almost 200 submissions and showcased strong community interest in new technologies designed to support patient care and hospital operations.
