Raleigh County Schools share updates to academic calendar following inclement weather closures

Beckley, WV (WOAY) Raleigh County Schools is sharing important updates to the academic calendar following recent snow days and weather-related closures.

Superintendent Dr. Starcher released a video outlining how the district will address missed instructional time for the 2025–2026 school year.

Dr. Starcher also explains what families and staff can expect moving forward, including how the district plans to stay on track for the remainder of the school year.

The district builds an extra 30 minutes of instruction each day, allowing up to five Accrued Instructional Time Days to be used when schools close due to inclement weather.

Those days do not have to be made up and do not extend the school calendar.

The district also has the option to use up to five Remote Learning Days in place of scheduled instructional days.

Those can only be used during weather closures and when staff are able to report on a two-hour delay.

Now that both accrued days and remote learning days have been exhausted, the district will convert Outside School Environment (OSE) days into instructional days as needed.

Six OSE days have been converted to makeup days. Students will now attend school June 4 through June 11 to make up closures that occurred in late January and early February.

School leaders say they’ll continue monitoring weather conditions and will communicate any additional changes directly with families.
