BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- The pre-k expo is an event hosted annually by Raleigh County Schools. Raleigh County has 17 different elementary schools that are ready to teach your little ones.
“We hold this event because we really, truly believe that early intervention for our children is what they need to be successful,” said Michelle Blankenship, the director of elementary and early childhood education for RCS. “This just provides parents who don’t know the opportunities that we have in our county. Some parents may not know that we offer free preschool for all of our children.”
This event allows the families to come out and learn what their child will be learning in school. They can also see all the different opportunities for your kids within the county.
“We also have faith-based daycares, private daycares, and we also have [other] services throughout the county, like FMRS,” explained Blankenship. “We also have the bookmobile here and we have a lot of different services that families can look at.”
Blankenship says this event helps boost enrollment in the school system. Many of the kids had fun with the activities provided and are ready to start their school careers. We asked future preschooler Liam if he was excited to go to preschool, and he said yes.
All who came agreed it was a fun educational day with plenty to see and do. Out of all the activities and different schools that the students got to meet, they had the opportunity to hop on a school bus and see what it would be like heading to school.
As a reminder, if your child is four years old prior to July 1st, then you can enroll them in preschool. You can visit the link below for more information.
