Raleigh County man cited after loaded gun found at Yeager Airport Checkpoint

Charleston, WV (WOAY)- A Raleigh County man was cited after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers discovered a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag at the West Virginia International Yeager Airport.

The incident occurred on Saturday, April 26, when TSA officers detected a 9mm handgun loaded with five bullets, including one in the chamber.

TSA intercepted the firearm during routine screening at the checkpoint and immediately alerted law enforcement.

Police responded by removing the man—identified as a resident of Daniels, W.Va.—from the checkpoint for questioning. Authorities confiscated the weapon and issued a criminal citation.

This marks the second firearm intercepted at Yeager Airport so far in 2025.

TSA reminds travelers that firearms are prohibited in carry-on luggage, even if the passenger holds a concealed carry permit.

Firearms can only be transported in checked baggage, provided they are properly declared and stored in compliance with TSA regulations.
