Raleigh County man behind bars following high-speed pursuit, capture by K-9

CLENDENIN, WV (WOAY) – A Raleigh County man has been captured by a K-9 officer with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s office.

Ronald Dewayne Sims, a 44-year-old man from Beckley, was arrested after leading deputies on a brief, high-speed chase through Clendenin.

Sims drove the car into the Elk River and ran into the woods, where K-9 officer Jet tracked and eventually caught Sims along the riverbank. Jet was assisted by Deputies Barbagallo and Americo.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s office says that Sims has a history of fleeing and extreme violence. Deputies say he was caught with a handgun, ammunition, and 100 grams of illicit drugs.

He was treated for the dog bite at a local hospital and faces multiple charges. He is being held in South Central Jail.
