Rainy Week Ahead; Water Issues Possible

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): After a wonderful weekend, we return to an active weather pattern with lots of rain and a few thunderstorms along the way. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has your full forecast:

Today and Tuesday will bring rain with heavier amounts in localized spots, giving us around an inch or two over the next two days. Ponding of water is expected in vulnerable areas, and flooding may be an issue in localized areas due to heavy rain. The Greenbrier Valley will be most likely to see flash flooding due to higher rain amounts and less rain needed for flash flooding according to guidance. The area will need around an inch and a half in 3 hours, while the western and northern counties will need 2 inches within 3 hours. Flooding will not be widespread like Valentine’s Day weekend, but there is flooding potential with this system. With that being said, this rain will be mostly beneficial across the region.

The rain and isolated storms will only continue after a brief break overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. However, the heaviest of it will pass by then. While ponding of water will still be a risk with all the rain present, flooding risk will decrease. The rain will be on again, off again through Wednesday and Thursday, with Thursday being the best day out of the week despite the showers. Temperatures will reach near 80 degrees on Thursday and showers will be scattered and light.

Friday will bring another round of rain and storms, some of them being strong and potentially severe. We will be keeping an eye on the storms later this week as rising temperatures and peaks of sunshine may cause some instability in the atmosphere. The weekend should fair a bit better, with rain dissipating through the day Saturday and finally drying up on Sunday as we stay in the 70s. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
