Rainelle, WV (WOAY)- Run for the Wall is an annual cross-country motorcycle ride honoring veterans and fallen soldiers.
Riders travel a central route to Washington, D.C., arriving at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial just before Memorial Day.
The riders make a special stop in Rainelle each year for the city’s West Virginia Veterans Reunion, which kicks off this Thursday, May 22.
At noon, the city of Rainelle will host a welcome escort for the riders as they pass through town, giving the community a chance to show its support and wish the riders well on their journey.
Later that day, at 5:00 p.m., the Rainelle Moose Lodge will host a dinner.
Gold star families and veterans will be served free of charge.
Others are welcome to join with a monetary donation.
Reunion events will continue through Sunday, featuring patriotic essay readings from Rainelle Elementary students, a parade, bicycle contest, live music, and much more.
While you’re in town, make sure to stop by the Mountaineer Veterans Garden of Honor, where more than 11,000 American flags proudly wave, each representing a West Virginia service member lost in action since World War I.
