Rain tonight and tomorrow, then a nice weekend

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – After a nice day today, showers have returned to the skies over southern West Virginia. Unlike yesterday, it won’t take quite as long for the precipitation to make it to the ground, as humidity levels are much higher. Also, unlike yesterday, the precipitation will mainly fall as rain since temperatures are in the 40s. If the showers can make their way to the higher elevations, some of them could change over to snow.

Tomorrow, a much better chance for rain is in the forecast as a storm approaches the area from the southwest. The storm will have some moisture to work with, and there is some concern for flooding. Fortunately, it looks like the heaviest rain should stay over the southern portions of the area, and while some of those areas also picked up decent snow, overall, it wasn’t as much as the northern parts of the area did.

After the storm is gone, we’re set up for a pleasant stretch of weather that includes the weekend. Most of the last few weekends have featured rain or snow on at least one of the days. This time, the entire weekend looks to be nice. There will be a chance for rain and snow, but it should hold off until early Monday morning. After a very nice Saturday, a front will come into the region and drop the temperatures a bit on Sunday. But it will still be above the normal.

Next week, the weather turns active again as another low comes roaring into the area. This one could bring us rain, snow, and even some freezing rain.

There is a chance that some above-freezing air could overspread the region above the surface, which would still be below freezing. This would mean freezing rain if any precipitation does occur, which would be a pretty good possibility given the position of the near-stationary frontal boundary and the amount of moisture that it should have to work with. At the moment, there is quite a bit of uncertainty in this part of the forecast, but it bears watching. The other concern would be the chance for flooding with the amount of rain that falls on the snowpack, and that will also have to be monitored. Good amounts of rain over the next seven days are a fairly good bet.
