WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Thunderstorms and showers began last night and have continued through the early morning hours. While things are starting to wind down a bit, rain will stick around through the day. Widespread activity will die down later this morning, but scattered thunderstorms will pop in and out this afternoon. A couple of those storms could end up on the stronger side if sunshine manages to break through the clouds, but it is more likely we stay mostly cloudy through most of the day. It is a good idea to stay weather aware through the day, but most of these storms and showers will be typical springtime weather.
We’ll get a brief break overnight before more showers and thunderstorms move into the region early Wednesday morning. Another low-pressure system will move in from the southern states, bringing widespread rain through most of the day. Once again, a few thunderstorms could end up strong to severe. Chances for severe weather are a bit higher tomorrow, but severe thunderstorms will be isolated if they develop. Even with the uptick in chances, the early morning timing of this system will limit the severe threat across our region just like today. The main concerns for tomorrow’s storm threat are damaging winds and hail. Tornadic activity and flooding are not likely over the next two days.
Storms will finally die down overnight Wednesday, but lingering showers are on the table for tomorrow morning. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:
After the storms die down overnight Wednesday, a few showers stick around Thursday morning. These showers will be much lighter and weaker, and temperatures will be around 15 degrees lower due to the cold front passing Wednesday night. Conditions will stay cool and wet not just Thursday, but all the way through Saturday. Both Friday and Saturday will be dampened by scattered showers popping in and out of the forecast, but any and all rain will be beneficial for the region. Overall, these three days of rain will be much calmer than either today or tomorrow due to the scattered and light nature of showers.
Showers finally die down Saturday night, leading to a calmer Sunday. However, frost is the new concern for Sunday morning. Temperatures will dip into the low to mid-30s early that morning, which can cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation. If you have sensitive plants or crops, it would be a good idea to plan ahead and protect them. Temperatures will slowly start to recover Sunday afternoon and early next week.
