We have seen quite a bit of rain in some areas this morning and into this afternoon, which prompted the National Weather Service office in Charleston to issue Flood Warnings for the counties in the northern and northwestern portions of our viewing area. As you head out this weekend, remember not to cross flooded rivers, creeks, and streams or flooded roads. Turn around; don’t drown!

The next few days will feature the weather roller coaster again. After rising to around 70 by the end of today, we’ll see much warmer weather and plenty of wind to begin the weekend. Highs will rise into the 80s tomorrow on a gusty southwesterly wind, getting close to the record for April 5th. Beckley’s record for the day is 84 degrees, set way back in 1909! For Bluefield, the record for tomorrow is 81 degrees set in 2010. The only downside to the weather on Saturday is that the winds will be gusty at times, but fire danger should be low due to the recent rain. On Sunday, the entire area will see cooler temperatures with plenty of clouds and a chance for showers and storms. Some storms could be on the strong side, but the chances are small.

The BIG cooldown begins next week. Temperatures will drop into the 50s for highs by Monday, combining with some showers. Some of the showers could even fall in the wintry form late Monday and into Tuesday morning before ending. Tuesday will then feature a winter-type day, with highs only in the 40s! At least the rain and snow will be gone for a while.
Later in the extended forecast, temperatures return to near the seasonal normal, with highs around 60 on Thursday and Friday. The chance for showers is also back in the forecast, with rain on Thursday and Friday.
