Public comment hearing for proposed Appalachian Power rate increase case scheduled for June 17

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – A major utility rate case is moving forward in West Virginia, and the public will soon have an opportunity to provide feedback.

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia has scheduled both in-person and virtual public comment hearings, along with an evidentiary hearing, for June 17 in response to a proposed $250.5 million rate increase by Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power.

The evidentiary hearing will begin that morning at 9 a.m., followed by the public comment session at 5:30 p.m.—both taking place at PSC headquarters at 201 Brooks Street in Charleston.

Those wishing to speak during the public comment hearing must register by 4 p.m. on June 16.

Registration is available online via Microsoft Teams, by phone, or by email.

You may register by calling Alexis Weimer at (304) 340-0822 or Andrew Gallagher at (304) 340-0820, or by emailing aweimer@psc.state.wv.us or agallagher@psc.state.wv.us.

In-person attendees should arrive early to sign up before 5:30 p.m.

If speaking publicly isn’t preferred, written comments can be submitted online, by mail, or in person.

All correspondence should reference Case No. 24-0854-E-42T.

The proposed increase filed in November 2024 would raise rates by 14.6 percent.

The Commission previously rejected an earlier request and has now set aside three days to take evidence in this latest filing.
