Peace Parade happening in Mt. Hope on Friday

MT. HOPE, WV (WOAY) – One local organization in Mt. Hope is planning a peace parade for Friday evening.

Harmony for Hope along with the Mt. Hope Regional Band will be putting on the parade to promote unity and peace with the unrest happening in the country following the death of George Floyd.

Event organizer and Harmony for Hope Executive Director Carrie Kidd says it is important especially for Mt. Hope to come together and show solidarity as the city has a history of segregation.

“I think it’s very important that we don’t forget that the lives of our black community members matter, so it’s important for us to come out. And Harmony for Hope being an organization, our goal is to unite communities through music,” she said.

Cars are encouraged for this parade but you will still be allowed to march as they will line up before 6:00 p.m. at the old Mt. Hope High School on Friday night and parade through town. Masks are encouraged.
