CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY)- Appalachian Power crews are assessing damage across the state from the severe weather.
The company says the second storm system peaked on Sunday at 4 am leaving 78,000 customers in the Appalachian region without power.
As of 9:15 am this morning, about over 21,000 West Virginia customers are currently without power. The town with the most outages is Williamson in Mingo County which has close to 9,000 customers without power.
The high waters have made restoration efforts inaccessible for over half of the impacted customers in the mountain state.
AEP employees and contractors are conducting storm restoration work — including mutual assistance crews from Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
AEP estimates most West Virginia customers’ power will be restored by 11 pm on the 20th.
