Glen Jean, WV (WOAY)- There’s a new way to connect with the past at New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
The park has just released a treasure trove of oral history recordings featuring voices dating back to the early 1980s.
All recordings are available to listen to now on their website.
Interviews include stories of mining, railroading, African American history, and personal memories of life in the Gorge.
Some of the voices belong to people who are no longer with us, making their words even more meaningful.
The park has preserved over 350 recordings, with more on the way as NPS gathers stories ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2028.
If you or someone you know has stories, photos, and documents you would like to share, the park wants to hear from you.
If you would like to contribute, please send an email to Neri_oral_history@nps.gov.
You can listen to the collection at nps.gov/neri.
